If you live in New York and are looking for a lawyer to handle a case for you in child custody, landlord-tenant problems, a criminal issue, or to write your will, you can now do so online. The New York State Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral and Information Service has launched a portal for people who are looking for a lawyer to handle a matter for them.

The service is confidential and is available on a 24-hour basis by going to https://nysbalris.legal.io, but they can also continue to use the telephone as well.

The client needs to go to the website above and fill out the questionnaire describing the issue and where they are located. This information is kept confidential. Once this is done the State Bar staff reviews the information and matches the person with an attorney that is in his vicinity or a nearby location.

If the person happens to live in one of the 17 counties that have a local referral service they will forward his request to the appropriate bar association in their county.
