Dr. Jennifer Walden is a cosmetic surgeon based in Austin, Texas. She had success in her practice in New York City’s Upper East side for seven and a half years before she moved back to her hometown in Austin. Dr. Jennifer Walden is a part of the 19% of surgeons who are female. She is also one of the 10% of females who are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Not only has she proved herself successful as a career woman, but also as a mother of her twin boys, who she raised as a single mother while pursuing her career. Dr. Walden, in order for her sons to be closer to home, packed up her belongings and returned to Austin with concerns that there may not be as many opportunities in cosmetic surgery there as there are in New York City. She nonetheless took the risk and is now her own boss with her own team, operating in a AAAASF fully accredited office in Austin, Texas. She learned that regardless of location, the demand for cosmetic surgery is the same, and the services she provides keeps her going as surgeon. She is motivated by her patients who she knows she is helping by making them feel better about themselves or feel good about themselves again. As a liberal and a feminist, she is also conscious about the implications of plastic surgery to her own gender. As the majority of cosmetic surgery is performed on women, Dr. Walden believes that she fully understands the concerns of her female patients and empathizes with them, rather than sympathizes as a male surgeon might. Dr. Walden does not simply do her job mindlessly, but constantly reflects on her choice to becoming a cosmetic surgeon and her impact on the people around her.
